Heritage Property @ Aduka Puthur, Palakkad District, Kerala

Valsalyam Tharwad is a Heritage Home of more than 140 years vintage. It is built of laterite stones and timber as per the principles enshrined in Vastu Shastras - India 's Ancient Vedic architecture.

The inner dimensions of rooms and ceiling heights subscribe to Vastu Shastras. On the roof top the northeast corner is prominent by it's lower height. The Karuna Sutra is well defined by the holes made in the walls and pillars. The excellent wood works are a pleasure to see; they are functional, beautiful and hand made. Wooden pillars are not only load bearing but are ascetically shaped and hand carved. Intricate symmetrical designs on the ceiling showcase time tested superior engineering and carpentry skills.

The doors are outwardly ornamental but very strong and can protect the inmates from attacks. Secret chambers in the beams to hide jewels and wooden steps so designed to give early warning about trespass are some practical aspects.
